Most of the men I work with are doing everything right on paper. Career, family, fitness, responsibilities handled. And underneath it, something isn’t working. Anxiety that won’t shut off. A marriage that feels more like logistics than partnership. A short fuse they don’t recognize. A quiet sense that the life they built doesn’t feel like theirs.

I help men who are carrying the weight of provider culture: the pressure to perform, produce, and hold it together without ever showing strain. That pressure doesn’t make men strong. It makes them isolated. Therapy is where we take the armor off and figure out what’s actually going on.

My approach is active and collaborative. I draw from acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and existential and somatic approaches, tailored to what you need rather than a one-size-fits-all protocol. Expect direct conversation, real goals, and work you can use between sessions.

Areas I work in most:

-Anxiety and stress in high-performing professionals who can’t turn it off
-Relationship challenges, including disconnection, conflict, and communication patterns that keep repeating
-Identity and life transitions: career shifts, fatherhood, divorce, the question of “what now?”
-Sports and performance, including athletes and competitors working on the mental side of their game
-Anger and emotional regulation, especially for men who feel everything comes out as irritation or nothing comes out at all

I hold a doctorate in leadership and policy, a master’s in social work, and licensure as an independent clinical social worker in Vermont, New York, and Connecticut. Beyond the therapy room, my work centers on men’s psychological development. You can learn more about that work at CyrusPatten.com.

If you’ve been thinking about therapy for a while, that’s usually the signal. Reach out and we’ll find a time to talk.
